Local Choir News: Cantatrice, Kaleidoscope Singers and Vocal Fusion.

It’s a busy few months for three choirs in Steyning – Cantatrice, Kaleidoscope Singers and Vocal Fusion

Last month the ladies of Cantatrice travelled to the beautiful city of Bath to take part in the Mid-Somerset Music Competition – writing this in advance I can’t tell you how they have done yet but they did extremely well two years ago so we were very excited and hopeful this time.

Later this month we join the JP Big Band for a totally brilliant evening of music from female artists from the Andrews Sisters to Diana Kraull. More about this further down.

Kaleidoscope have just had a workshop on their music as they prepare for their joint concert with Vocal Fusion Acapella. This takes place at St Mary de Haura in Shoreham by Sea on Saturday 6th April at 19:00. St Mary’s have a strong musical tradition and we are absolutely delighted that they have invited us to perform there. Music will be highly varied – we start with the glorious ‘O Quam Gloriosum’ by Victoria and along the way sing some Gershwin, Eric Clapton and a Kings Singers number. Tickets are only £8 on the door, from the Sewing and Needlecraft Shop in East Street or ring 01444 482183.

Vocal Fusion Acapella (an all-male chorus) are preparing for the annual British Barbershop Convention to be held at the Bournemouth Centre on the Bank Holiday weekend in May but prior to that they sing with the Kaleidoscope Singers in Shoreham (as above), perform for the Rotary Club at St Cosmas/St Damien Church at Hassocks on Friday 26th April, 19:30 and then present their convention songs on Wednesday 22nd May at the Steyning Centre, 20:15. This last event is FREE – so just turn up – we would love to have an audience.

Of course all these choirs have more concerts in June and July but that just gives you a taste of some great concerts for you to support. Keep Live music ALIVE!

MORE ABOUT the 27th April!
Cantatrice & the JP Big Band Steyning’s biggest choir and Steyning’s very own big band join forces for an evening of music from female artist only! Cantatrice and The JP Big Band have separately enjoyed many successful concerts over the past few years, from sell out Christmas and summer concerts to fund raisers for Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

With Cantatrice being an all-female choir it seemed only fitting to put together an evening celebrating only female artists that have graced the many stages over the world and provided us with some unforgettable hits.
Not only will there be an 80 strong female choir on the stage and a home grown backing vocals group Saffron they are also joined by two guest singers! The JP Big Band’s very own Bryony Prior is joined by West End star Ellie Ann Lowe to give their take on some popular classics.
