Double Success for Steyning at the Sussex Tennis Awards

What a brilliant afternoon for Steyning Tennis Club at the Tennis Sussex Awards ceremony at the Amex Stadium, hosted by Sky News Sports presenter Rob Curling.

Steyning won 'Club of the Year' and the club’s coach, Julia Searle, won 'Development Coach of the Year'.

The awards recognise all the work done to increase membership (up over 40% in the last 5 years), to update the floodlights, and to encourage participation with over 50% of adults and 85% of juniors now taking part in the coaching programme.

Responding to Rob’s question about what made the club special, Steyning’s chairman, Mike Hobbs, said, 'We have a genuinely friendly and inclusive atmosphere with everyone made welcome, whatever their standard. And we have an amazing coach in Julia who energises both adults and juniors'.

Julia’s award recognises the fantastic coaching programme she’s put together.

For adults it includes Rusty Rackets and Improvers; for juniors it builds on the club being the first in Sussex to achieve LTA Youth Recognised Venue Status and includes a whole range of sessions for those aged 4 to 18.

New members are always welcome.

The new season starts this month so now is the perfect time to get involved.
