Why Information and Communication is Crucial to Developing Countries

Since March 2009, Caroline Nursey has been Executive Director of BBC Media Action, the BBC’s international development charity. BBC Media Action believes in the power of media and communication to help reduce poverty and support people in understanding their rights. It has offices in 15 countries, but many projects reach beyond these countries.

Caroline spent the previous seven years at Oxfam GB, where she held a number of Director-level roles based in Oxford and various parts of Africa. She led the World University Service for six years, and before that was Head of Overseas Projects at Y Care International.

She has a further ten years experience in education, mostly with VSO in Tanzania, Ghana and the UK.
Caroline is currently Chair of Bond - the UK network for organisations working in international development. She was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list 2014.

Caroline is a member of the Society of Friends (Quakers) and worships in Westminster. She is currently Assistant Clerk of the trustees of the British Yearly Meeting.

All are welcome. There will be a retiring collection to help defray expenses.
