Upper Beeding Primary School - Penny Farthing Visit

Neil Laughton of the Penny Farthing club brought his penny farthing to school to show KS1 as part of their topic “On the Move.”

Neil Laughton cycled the Penny Farthing to the school dressed in clothes that he might have worn at that time. He told the children about the history of the penny farthing and then demonstrated how to ride it, riding it around the school hall.

Children then had the opportunity to sit on the penny farthing and experience how high it is. You can’t actually ride a penny farthing unless you are over 1.6m tall  so it was very high.
