Steyning Chorus wins major event

Local Male-Voice Chorus 'Vocal Fusion Acapella,' who are based in Steyning, recently won the 'Best Small Chorus' Award at the 2019 National Barbershop Convention in Bournemouth. The chorus also won their Division, won £750.00 in Prize money, and recorded their highest ever score in this important National Championship!

This was a great achievement for their Musical Director Zoe Peate. 'For me' says Zoe,'vocal technique is paramount, and all members of the chorus work really hard on improving voice quality, breathing technique, and in having a solid emotional understanding of the piece we are singing to help shape dynamics, and deliver an engaging performance.'

Zoe added 'This was only Vocal Fusion’s 4th Convention since their formation, and the performance of the Chorus has gone from 23rd to 9th in that time - which is just amazing! Whether we are singing barbershop, jazz, swing, spirituals or other musical acapella styles, the guys now know that they can sing and create great harmonies really well, and that they are going to need to keep working on all aspects of their vocal technique to maintain a top-level performance. All the guys love to sing and the breadth of our repertoire always thrills our audiences.'
