Retreat, write, relax

TWO Horsham district businesswomen have joined forces to bring a series of writing retreats to the area this year featuring a starry roster of speakers and experts.

Sussex Writing Retreats, which will have events in April, May, July and September will take place in Dial Post and bookings for the limited places are open now.

The four retreats are open to writers at all stages of their careers and are organised by established author and business entrepreneur Daisy White, alongside PR director and author Lisa Brace.

Daisy said, ‘This isn’t just another writing course, we are both experienced professionals and we only invite in fellow professional speakers currently working in the TV, film and literature industries to be guest speakers.

This way you can be guaranteed that when you come and invest your time with us over the long weekends, you can come away with the most up to date guidance and advice – as well as maybe just a smattering of industry gossip.’

Both Lisa and Daisy are signed with literary agents and are at different stages in their careers.

Lisa said, ‘Daisy’s my inspiration. Her books are published by HarperCollins, she’s been number one in Amazon bestsellers’ lists both here and in the US and she’s a machine when it comes to getting her books out there. She’s a talented author and I’ve learnt so much from her personally that I know attendees to our retreats will be well supported.’

Daisy added, ‘Lisa’s debut is going out on submission to publishers this year via her agent, which we’re both excited about and can’t wait to keep our attendees updated on the very real process of this side of the business. As a journalist and PR director she’ll be bringing so much wisdom to our retreats for our guests who need to understand how to market themselves as authors, they’re in for a treat.’

Sussex Writing Retreats aim to offer a place to recharge, relax and explore a different side to writing with a focus on helping authors.

Retreats will include how to get published, how to get get an agent, how to pitch a TV drama series and how to get the perfect submission package.

Lisa added, ‘Or you can just recharge, relax and explore a different side to your creativity whilst we bring the energy, the guidance and the fun – and some incredible locally sourced food too. What more could you need?’
