Mental health support comes to Steyning

People living in Steyning and surrounding villages will now be able to get community-based mental health support, thanks to charity Coastal West Sussex Mind expanding its much-needed services into the area.

Coastal West Sussex Mind supports people in various locations in West Sussex including Worthing, Littlehampton and Midhurst, where it works with both adults and young people from age 16 plus.

Until now, the charity had funding to offer some support for 16 to 25-year-olds in its youth service in the Steyning area but none for adults over 25 there. Now some NHS funding, together with money from fundraising, means people in Steyning, Henfield, Storrington, Pulborough areas will be able to get the help they need.

Area manager Adam Howell said: 'It’s been great getting out in the community, meeting people and starting to set up our new service. I’m delighted that Steyning Leisure Centre manager Dale Whitford has offered us use the centre, not only for activities there, but with a room for some of our one-to-one sessions with our recovery workers.' 'Hazel Smith who manages the local libraries is also helping us set up some information sessions.'

See dates for Steyning Library below. In addition, as a key mental health provider in Pathfinder West Sussex - an alliance of organisations which work together to support people with mental health needs – the charity is teaming up with Pathfinder clinician from Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Paul Chapman to offer a FREE six-week Five Ways to Well-being course at the Steyning Centre.

Adam said: 'It is amazing how much you can do yourself to boost your ‘feeling good’ body chemistry without traditional drugs or psychotherapy routes.'

Find out about it in an open-access taster Five Ways to Well-being session, Thursday August 22, 10.30am-12.30pm at the Steyning Centre.

To book your FREE place on the taster event please call Adam on 07495 077298 or email chanctonburyhub@coastalwestsussexmind.org.
