Front Cover: ‘Lifted’- Lisa Woolcott Felt Artist

Lisa born and raised in Sussex settled, with her family, in Steyning. She is self-taught, learning through research, study and experimentation. Has dabbled in furniture upcycling, acrylics, watercolours and working with sea glass, but a life-changing personal event gave her the nudge to take her creative passions more seriously.

Greatly influenced by the coast in particular, finding as she does the sea to be exhilarating, energising, powerful, spiritually uplifting, and at the same time peaceful, grounding, and healing. She (and her dog) visit the coast and landscape around her whenever possible, returning to her studio to interpret and recreate the pictures from her mind, and often her camera.

The creative process of layering fibres allows to convey the story of a moment, a mood or a memory, reflecting in the textures and marks in her work.Using merino wool, silks, bamboo threads and other embellishments in the wet felting process (where water and soap are used to bond the fibres) and needle felting process (using barbed needles and finger guards!) to ‘paint’ her pictures.

Dyed wool is mainly used and is lucky to have a relative in Somerset with a herd of rare breed sheep for unspun curly locks that often feature in her work. Is also known to pull fleece locks from fences whilst out walking!
