‘Beech on the Boundary’

We are pleased to feature graphic illustrator. Chris Sedgwick on our front cover this month.

I moved from Brighton to Upper Beeding in 2007 and immediately felt inspired by the local downland and Adur valley. I can see Chanctonbury ring from my window and live a 10 minute walk from the river.

Combine the principles of relief printing with the techniques of pre-digital commercial art to make my pictures. This allows me to make small runs of prints via the Giclee process which I edition and sign.

Giclée has come to be somewhat loosely associated with types of inkjet printing primarily produced on Canon, Epson, HP and other large-format printers. These printers use the Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black colour process as a base with additional colour cartridges for smoother gradient transitions. A wide variety of substrates on which an image can be printed with such inks is available.

My subject is the local landscape and I can’t see this changing anytime soon. As a gardener with a background in Horticulture the landscape feels like part of me . As long as I live in this landscape I will never run short of inspiration!
