Crowning Glory!

Over the winter months local volunteers have been giving up their time to help produce the many table decorations needed for the coming Queen’s Jubilee Street Party.

It has involved creating intricate cardboard crowns set with beautiful jewels (not real unfortunately, but still rather splendid!); impressive medals to pin on your chest and hand held union jacks to happily wave. Even the pots to hold all the regalia have been home-made! A massive number of tubes of glue were used, plus many rolls of silver foil, insulating tape and kirby grips – yes kirby grips – all needed for vital parts of this homemade production line!

Oh, the other vital ingredient: patience and making sure you kept working even when chatting to fellow workers and enjoying cups of coffee/tea with biscuits It was hard work, but tremendous fun too.

Caroline Meeson has been the lynchpin for all of it, preparing team timetables; making sure all the right materials were to hand; demonstrating the best way to get items made and allowing her home to become a temporary work room.

On Saturday 9th April, a few of this very special task force were present for the last workshop and also took part in modelling some of the crowns for the official ‘end of term’ photo.

However, there is still one more piece of the jigsaw yet to be completed. On the morning of the event these lovely decorations will need to be laid out on the many tables that will fill Steyning High Street. One more mountain to climb, but it will be worth it.
