Become a Friend of Steyning Parish Church.

 Did you know that Steyning is thought to have one of the finest 12th century churches in the country? Or that we have the oldest church door in Sussex (about 850 years old)? Or that the carving on every one of the arches in the nave is different and would once have been decorated in glorious colours?

We are lucky to have such a historic and beautiful church in Steyning. ‘The Friends of Steyning Parish Church’ has been formed to help look after it.

Our aims are to raise funds to help with conservation and repair, and to widen the enjoyment of the building and its history.

The charity is now up and running and everyone is welcome to join, whether churchgoers or not. You may be interested in the history of the building, or simply appreciate its beauty and peace.

What brings us together is that we value this ancient building in the heart of the town.

It’s easy to join The Friends. Just fill in the membership leaflet (available in the church, museum and library) and drop it off at the Parish Office in Penfold Hall, or email sally@barnards.plus.net Membership is free, though donations are of course very welcome - see the leaflet for details.

By joining you will receive details of upcoming community and fundraising events, publications, and occasional call outs for volunteers. We are planning ‘Art Under the Arches’, a children's art event inspired by the church for the Steyning Festival.

Why not drop into the church one day, take a while to sit, breathe in the atmosphere and remind yourself what a gem we have in the town. While you are there you could pick up a Souvenir Guide to the church full of historical information and beautiful photos (only ￡3), a postcard of the church (25p), one of the free ‘Graveyard Gossip’ leaflets, or a membership/donation leaflet.
