We all know Oxfam is a very worthwhile organisation but do you know exactly what Oxfam does? Have you visited the wonderful Oxfam shop in Steyning yet? Read on to find out more about what Oxfam does, and how you can help by visiting your local Oxfam shop in Steyning to shop, donate or volunteer…
What Do Oxfam Do?
Oxfam is a vibrant global movement of passionate, dedicated people fighting poverty together. People power drives everything Oxfam does from saving lives and developing projects that put poor people in charge of their lives and livelihoods, to campaigning for change that lasts.
To have the biggest possible impact on the lives of poor people worldwide, Oxfam concentrates on three interlinked areas of work:
Emergency Response:
People need help in an emergency – fast. Oxfam saves lives, swiftly delivering aid, support and protection; and helping communities develop the capacity to cope with future crises. Oxfam’s current emergencies are the East Africa food crisis, the Ivory Coast crisis, the Pakistan floods, and the Haiti earthquake and cholera response.
Development Work:
Poor people can take control, solve their own problems, and rely on themselves – with the right support. Oxfam fund long-term work to fight poverty in thousands of communities in over 70 countries worldwide.
Campaigning For Change:
Poverty isn’t just about lack of resources. In a wealthy world it’s also about bad decisions made by powerful people. Oxfam campaigns hard, putting pressure on leaders for real lasting change. Many of those who suffer the most are listened to least. By campaigning with Oxfam you can use your influence over friends, family, businesses and politicians to make more noise and reach further to improve the lives of those in greatest need.
How You Can Help:
