Wiston Dog Walks Scheme
Have you ever wished you had company when you’re walking your dog? Or would you take your dog out for longer if you weren’t on your own?
The Wiston Dog Walks could be your answer.
Supported by the Steyning Downland Scheme, local dog owners will be piloting one walk a month where you are invited to come along with your dog, and enjoy our local downs, with some local company.
For this pilot period, walks will be for adults only, with a maximum of two sociable dogs per handler. The walks will not be strenuous, and will go whatever the weather, unless it is icy. You will be responsible for getting yourself around the walk. How about bringing a flask to enjoy a drink together at the end?
Meet outside the Cricket Pavilion on the Memorial Playing Field, Steyning, at 8.45am for a 9.00 start.
Walks will last about an hour.
Sat 13th March, Wed 7th April, Sat 8th May, Wed 9th June.
NB this is not a dog walking service.
Botany – finding out what’s there...
Do you have a little knowledge about downland plants? Or would you like to learn some more? Conservation work is being carried out across the Steyning Downland Scheme, and we need to know how this is affecting and encouraging the chalk downland species. We would like to set up a group of volunteer surveyors who could spend a morning or afternoon a month, May – September, walking the Steyning Downland Scheme and recording what is growing. A chance to enjoy and learn together, with the support of WSCC ecologists.
There will be an initial meeting on Wednesday April 21st, early evening. If you’re interested, or just want to find out more, please contact Bryony Webb on 01903 812129 (Wed and Thur) or on bryony@wistonestate.co.uk
