What happened on the Rifle Range?

Our local downs have a long and varied history, and a lot of people, from different nationalities, have passed through Steyning, some making use of the Rifle Range.

This valley has been used for shooting practice since around the 1850s until the 1980s, and if it could speak, it would probably have a few tales to tell!

Local resident Justin Russell is keen to piece together the history of the Rifle Range, and is looking for any local people who might have their own stories to tell about it. The results of his research will eventually be shown on the Steyning Downland Scheme website.
