Trekking for Parkinsons
Together with her friend Gill, her Mum and her sister, Steyning resident Janine Pearce will be spending a week in September trekking the Great Wall of China.
They’ve been told it will be hard work ‘but’, says Janine, ‘the real challenge is raising the £5400 before we go!’
‘My Dad has Parkinsons and I know that Parkinsons UK does some fantastic work supporting people like my Dad and their families to live with this debilitating disease. Mum and my sister live in Hampshire – they’re doing their own fundraising.
Gill and I have pooled our ideas, talents and efforts and so far we’ve had an Indian Bingo night, sold cakes and lollies at school, Brighton Station, to local businesses and at the children’s Friday evening cricket.
Even though it’s been hard work, it’s been fun thinking up and running our events. We’ve had lots of support from family and friends – 30 of them joined us on a sponsored walk across the Downs last Sunday.
Some people, particularly those who have a friend or relative with Parkinsons, have donated money to us through our Just Giving page. If any Steyning residents would like to make a donation, we’d be thrilled – our page is www.justgiving.com/jan-andgill.
Or phone Janine on 01903 816796 to join her and Gill in their next event. All support is welcome!
