The Big Draw 2011, Hosted At The Steyning Library

Big Draw CompedtetionBig Draw CompedtetionBig Draw CompedtetionAlong with hundreds of other venues across the country, Steyning Library hosted a Big Draw event on Saturday 8th October.

The Big Draw is a national annual event aimed at getting individuals and communities to come together to produce a piece or pieces of art. Yes, even those people who profess not to be able to draw at all are encouraged to take part.

In the library we based our event on the well-known rhyme “Five little ducks went swimming one day, over the hills and far away”. We had painted ducks, ducks to colour in and a huge Mother duck to collage. We had lots of children taking part and their parents and grandparents were also handed paintbrushes. Other adult visitors to the library who thought they had come just to collect a book were surprised to be offered the chance to produce a duck and some even accepted the challenge.

The results of a hugely successful and fun morning are on display in the children’s area of Steyning Library. Do please call in to have a look, guaranteed to make you smile. And while you are there, please borrow a few books and support your library.

The pictures accompanying this article are two of the frieze itself and one of two young participants, Sarah and Ruby Aisthorpe-Chambers, who also had their faces painted in the library that morning.
