Steyning Scout News & Scout Christmas Post

Time flies and by the time you read this, the Scout Christmas Post will be underway! The green post boxes will go up in and around the town on Thursday 1st December. They will be regularly emptied by volunteer helpers over the following fortnight, with a final collection at 4pm on Thursday 15th December.

Stamps can be obtained from Bunces, Truffles and the Health Centre; they will still only be 25p each.

In the past we have had letters for Horsham, Henfield, Small Dole and Storrington (which have cost us considerably more than the cost of the stamp to deliver), not to mention the farms and houses down long tracks off the Horsham Road. We even posted one to Canada at our own expense!

Last year we asked you to please think about what you are asking the Steyning Scouts to do before posting and you did, thank you. Please limit post to addresses in Steyning, Bramber and Upper Beeding (we swap post with Bramber and Beeding Scouts).

It’s an impressive feat that 35 Scouts and 15 Cubs deliver more than 3000 cards in the week before Christmas. Most are posted in the last few days before the final collection. If you can post early, it would really help us as we have regular sorting sessions involving not only the Scouts but also the Cubs and Beavers.

We are still in need of more adults to get involved so that we can extend the range of activities that we carry out in the scout group.

This term, many youngsters earned their Group Environmental Award (requiring teams of scouts, cubs and beavers to work together) clearing scrub under the aegis of the Steyning and Ashurst Conservation Volunteers.

In addition, the Scouts now have an allotment, which they have already dug over and planted some vegetables in anticipation of an active and full season next year of sowing, growing and harvesting veg!

Phone Paul Johnson on 01903 815807 to find out what is involved.

Most Scout Leaders do it for 3 to 5 years and have children in the movement; they are not super humans just ordinary people like you, so go on, pick up the phone and ring Paul now - please!
