Steyning Late Night Christmas Shopping Evening
The evening started well enough with the rain, which had fallen earlier in the day, finally dispersing to leave a cold and slightly breezy evening. This was almost ideal conditions.
The crowds flocked into the High Street in droves and we were pleased to offer a good selection of stalls selling a whole variety of locally produced items, such as holly wreathes, jewellery, wooden carvings, Christmas trees, and many more. Mr Shayler’s funfair proved a interesting addition.
Sara Bowers brilliantly organised her usual top standard book signing evening at the local bookshop and all the local restaurants, food shops and cafes were open for business to feed the hordes of people! A traction engine arrived, which held a great appeal to those with a mechanical leaning and the steam from this and the noise was equal to that of the musical groups performing in the street. There was an enticing atmosphere of fast food aromas to add to the occasion.
There were a very good selection of raffle prizes this year, 17 in number, and I am sure the lucky winners will be enjoying what they have acquired. The prizes were donated by local traders and included meals out, mystery gifts, a fitness prize, a Christmas hamper with the first prize being won by a local person, which comprised of a set of wooden garden furniture.
I think it would be right to say that the early evening stall and electrical difficulties were eventually overcome and all in all, it was a super evening and I must give my thanks to all those who contributed in one way or another.
Finally, special thanks to Steyning Parish Council for their tremendous support and enthusiasm for this venture.
The Chamber of Trade wishes a Happy New Year to all readers.
