Steyning History Society
nThe forthcoming season’s presentations (our sixth year) begin on 8 September, and I believe our programme from then until 11 May 2011 represents, yet once more, an interesting and absorbing variety of historical events.
Going through the programme, we start with a super evening on Adur Valley history, followed by talks, month by month, on the background and origins of naval aviation, what we should know about Ann of Cleves; we have a special Victorian Christmas Magic Lantern “Extravaganza” In December.
In the new year (2011) we have the life story of Theodore Roosevelt, followed by the “Acid Bath Murders”, Saucy Sussex Women, Life in the Raj (East India Company) to Independence (1947), to conclude next May with the ever popular, Young King Henry VIII.
I am very much looking forward to these evenings, the second Wednesday in every month, from September 2010 to May 2011, apart from December, when the meeting is on the third Wednesday, i.e. 15 December.
As always, our gatherings are at the Steyning Centre, 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. – with the usual midway break for tea and chocolate cake, etc!
This coming season will reveal a clear stream of seasoned and popular speakers – some we have seen before, with others coming highly recommended – our presenters a mixture, almost equally, of men and women.
Do come and join us (last season we had over 120 members) – you will be most welcome.
In the first instance, please contact Ian Ivatt (01903) 813230 at 84 High Street, Steyning, or Patricia Blackie (01903) 812283, at Brambles, 1 Coombe Drove, Steyning. The annual subscription is still a low £8.00!
