Steyning Festival News
Saturday 26th May – Sunday 10th June - Come and get involved!
After resting for a year the Steyning Festival will be back in 2012 and will run from Saturday 26th May – Sunday 10th June. The plan is for the Festival to take place bi-annually alternating with the Steyning Country Fair.
The Festival was set up in 2007 running for four consecutive years growing from strength to strength. Many thanks go to everyone involved – the Committee, volunteers, sponsors, local businesses, Friends of Steyning Festival – the list goes on! The Festival would not be where it is today without this fantastic dedicated team.
The Steyning community and surrounding areas will once again have the opportunity of experiencing a vast programme of events that includes music, visual arts, theatre, literature and walks. This year will also include an exciting programme of community events. There will be something to suit all ages and interests for all the family to enjoy throughout the two weeks.
In keeping with previous festival years there will be an Art Trail organised by Steyning arts who were responsible for the Trail which was so successful earlier this year. The aim is to increase the number of venues provided for this year’s Trail and again to include events and demonstrations which were such a popular feature of it.
The music genre will be offering its usual eclectic mix including some classical compositions and there are many ideas in the melting pot for theatre, literary events and walks.
There are plans for Steyning High Street to close for a day and to host A Big Sunday Lunch in celebration of the Queens Diamond Jubilee. Tables and chairs will be set up and there will be music and entertainment for all to enjoy. Everyone will be invited to come along with their picnic and join in the festivities.
We are continuing to run our Friends of Steyning Festival and there is also the opportunity to become a Member of Steyning Festival which enables you to vote at our next AGM.
Work is well underway and we are currently gathering a team of enthusiastic people to help run the Festival. Further to our recent AGM that was opened up to the public for the first time this year, we are thrilled that people expressed an interest and signed up to take on various roles. Our new structure enables people to take on either a lead role within a certain area or to simply help out on a smaller scale.
Each role will be fully supported by the Director who is in charge of that area so no-one will be left alone and all areas will have the help of additional volunteers. We are pleased to have taken on some younger people this year who have just left University to help run the Festival and welcome the balance of both young and ‘old’! There are many jobs that need to be filled right now and some that require people to help out over the Festival period. Some of those jobs include: Company Secretary, Music Co-ordinator, Website Administrator, Distribution, Display Co-ordinator, Fund raising Co-ordinator, Advertising Co-ordinator, Bar staff Co-ordinator, Front of house Co-ordinator.
