Steyning Arts Festival

Steyning Art TrailAs the Steyning Festival takes a rest from four (I think) exceptional years of theatre, music and events the Art Trail this year will take place under the aegis of Steyning Arts.

This new venture for artists in the Steyning area has been set up to showcase the work of local artists and is delighted to make its mark in the first instance with the Art Trail to ensure it remains an established feature of Steyning’s cultural calendar.

There will be eight venues displaying works by some thirty different artists including painters, sculptors, ceramicists, printmakers, wood carvers, jewellers - generally a full range of the area’s talents.

The dates of The Art Trail remain as before over three weekends beginning on the May Bank holiday of the 28th, 29th, 30th May and continuing on 4th and 5th and again the 11th and 12th June.

A special feature this year will be demonstrations of arts and crafts, music and performance at different venues.

A new website to represent participating artists and inform the general public of future events is now live at www.steyningarts.co.uk. A leaflet with information on venues and events of Steyning Arts 2011 will be available in local shops and Steyning Library and Museum. We very much hope you enjoy what we have organised.

Steyning Arts is a “not for profit” umbrella organisation not just to enhance opportunities for individual artists but to showcase Steyning’s talents. It’s formation was prompted initially by the absence of a Steyning Festival this year under which art trails have previously taken place. Without Festival funding we are asking local individuals, businesses and other interests for donations to ensure we can operate as efficiently as possible and continue in the future to provide a service to our local community.

The organisers of this initiative are Ben Barker, Pennti Gwynn, 8 Henfield Road, Upper Beeding, Steyning, BN443TF and Jon Corballis, Rose Cottage, The Street, Bramber, BN44 3WE.

The images on the front cover are the Steyning Arts logo and art work by some of the local participating artists: Alice Harman, Caroline Darke, Paul Cutts, Ben Barker, Philippa Lithgow, Jon Corballis, Carol Wagstaff, Debbie Zoutewelle, Peter Buxton, Katherine Lawrie, Maggie Taylor, Peter Hampson.
