Steyning and Henfield Rotary in August 2011
One of the endearing features of Rotary is that we change our Club President on 1st July every year.
This promotes a genuine spirit of co-operative service within the Club, and gives every member who wishes to do so the opportunity to take the Chair for a year.
Handing over to the new President Tom Nutley, out-going President Peter Johnson said that after a slow start due to bad weather in December, we ended the year able to deliver all of our promises to the wide range of organizations we support with our personal service and through our fundraising.
The Golf Day on 30th June, which raised £1,800 for St. Barnabas and Martletts Hospices, was the latest in a run of really successful fundraising events, bringing the total raised in the year to close on £10,000. With 53 golfers taking part, a dinner and an auction, a really enjoyable day was had by all, especially Liz Symes, Duncan Campbell and Andrew Wilson who won the Ladies and the two Mens sections.
Andrew also won the Hospice Cup for the best overall performance. The Rotary Club is keen to express its thanks to those who participated and supported the event, to the hosts Pyecombe Golf Club who donated the green fees, and to the numerous individuals and companies that donated prizes for the golf and the auction – your efforts enabled us to raise a really great sum of money for our local hospices.
On 1st July we also launched our new scheme – Friends of Steyning and Henfield Rotary. If you like what the Rotary Club does but you don’t feel you can make the commitment to become a full member, you can now become a Friend of the Rotary Club: make yourself available for at least two events involving service in the community or fundraising over a 12 month period, and you’ll also get to join in the fun at social events and meetings with great speakers.
Or, join Rotary and make the world of difference: how would you like to help your community? Joining your local Rotary club will give you the ideal opportunity. You can get involved in managing events, supporting local charities, working with young people, organising disaster relief – even helping to eradicate disease worldwide. Not only will you experience an enormous sense of achievement, you’ll also learn valuable new skills, have lots of fun and make plenty of new friends and business contacts. Join the Rotary club of Steyning and Henfield and use your energy, humour and professional skills to make a real difference to the lives of others.
