Steyning and Henfield Rotary Club
Last year’s President Peter Johnson talks to Your Steyning.
“The Rotary Club invited me to become a member when I moved to Upper Beeding in 1999. The opportunity to put something back into the community whilst making new friends and having fun – Rotary has filled my expectations on every front”
“At the time I was travelling extensively with my job and we were both new to the area. As well as the great bunch of friends in the local Steyning and Henfield club, through Rotary I’ve met a lot of really interesting people and made new friends in various places across world, through visiting their clubs when I was there on business. Wherever I have been, Rotary has always made me very welcome and treated me almost as one of their own.”
“Also, what attracted me to Rotary in particular is that it is not a single issue charity. I wanted the opportunity to make a contribution internationally as well as locally across a wide range of good causes, and Rotary has certainly given me that. Early on through Rotary International, our global charity, I was able to take part in a project to refurbish a school for homeless children in Bangalore.”
“More recently I have been involved in fundraising events such as the Christmas Collections, Race Night, Car Boot Sale and Golf Day, raising funds for SAFeR, Steyning’s First Responders, Martlets and St Barnabas Hospices, the Chanctonbury Playscheme, the Special Task Force, the Salvation Army and many more – more than 75% of the funds we raise are spent on local needs.”
“We respond also to special circumstances, doing spot collections for international disasters, and helping out from time to time where there is a special need – we are always open to requests for small sums of money to help out.
What I have to give is my time, and there always seems to be something on the horizon where I can lend a hand.”
You could join Rotary and make a world of difference or, if you like what we do and would like to help out but feel you can’t make the commitment to full membership, you could join our new Friends of Rotary scheme.
