Steyning 60+ café club – good news at last!
Impact Initiatives, who operate the Dingemans Centre and local organisations have all rallied to save Steyning’s popular activity group for older people. Thanks to the support of the charity Impact Initiatives and donations from several local organisations, including Steyning Freemasons and Steyning Good Neighbours, the Steyning 60+ Café Club has avoided the threat of closure and is set to expand with an exciting new programme of activities for 2010.
Held every Monday at the Dingemans Centre, Shooting Field, the Club is already well known for its successful T’ai Chi and yoga classes – tailored to the needs of older people – and its range of social activities including darts, Scrabble, cards, skittles, boccia or new-age kurling. Tutor-led art classes are set to start this Spring and members will be invited to suggest activities to add to the Club’s programme to take it into the future.
“We are so grateful to local people for supporting the Club,” says Centre manager, Jane Williams. “We now feel we can really get on implementing member’s suggestions and offering an exciting range of Club activities. All classes are subsidised and represent excellent value for money - the Club is a great opportunity for meeting like-minded people, making new friends and improving fitness.”
Members are able to enjoy a freshly cooked two-course hot lunch each week and free tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day. “Its like dining at the Ritz!” said one regular Club-goer!
T’ai Chi is held every Monday, 9.30am to 10.30am, followed by Yoga, 10.45am to 11.45am. To find out more contact Jane or Donna on: 01903 879297 or email: dingemans@impact-initiatives.org.uk
