Refurbishment for Southdown Nursery
Following a successful application to West Sussex County Council, Southdown Nursery in Jarvis Lane, Steyning was recently awarded a significant grant to improve facilities for its pre-school children as part of the government’s SureStart scheme.
During the Summer break, extensive building work and redecoration transformed the setting whilst maintaining the charm and character of the original ‘Gervays Hall’.
Children have new toilet facilities and a spacious cloakroom area, a large space for creative and sensory play and an area for low-level food preparation. The funding, along with money already raised through Southdown’s own extensive fundraising events, has also enabled the purchase of purpose-built furniture and quality resources, further enriching the children’s learning experience.
Directors, staff, parents and children are delighted with the outcome, as Southdown Nursery now offers a truly child-centred indoor and outdoor environment, designed specifically to meet the developmental and learning needs of children from two to five years.
