October News from the 3B’s Churches.
One thing for certain about these three parishes is that there are a lot of dogs! I know that you will say that the Challis family have added to that number and yes we have! On October 10th I will introduce a new service to the parish (details in this magazine), it is called an Animal Service.
We hold this service as close as we can to the day the Church celebrates St Francis, the patron saint of animals. In the past I have held this service annually and the entry in the church record book has read 63 dogs, four cats, one rabbit, two pigs, a snake and a duck and one horse. Oh and 70+ people.
The service is open to anyone who loves animals and the collection will not be for the church but for an animal charity. It is often fun, sometimes dangerous but always holy, in a relaxed sort of way. Two years ago my curate was leading the prayers and she said “ and lets us pray for all those animals who rights and issues are never heard...” at which point my own duck drowned her out with so much quacking she had to stop but ended up in a fit of giggles, as we all did.
Seriously animals can often be neglected and abused and Christians try to live lives caring for all God created. So whether you attend Church or not why not join us inside if wet outside if dry and remember that we are all God’s creation and he loves us all furry or not!
Future Events:
• On behalf of the Anglicans in the 3B’s we welcome to Upper Beeding the new minister for the Baptist Church. We hope and pray that Peter, Vicky and their family will be happy here and we look forward to working together.
• ROX is the name our young people chose to call their Church Youth Club. Jesus built his Church on the rock that he called Simon Peter, St Peter and ROX (apparently) is a trendy way of say rock. So we build a Youth club for the parish meeting at St. Peter’s called ROX. Well it sort of makes sense! The club starts back again after the break on Friday 3rd in the GBH from 7:30pm-9pm. It is open to any young person aged around 11-18yrs.
• Sunday 3rd October is Harvest Festival!
• Friday 29th October sees the parish’s annual fireworks party. This now takes place in the Rectory garden and will form part of the ROX’s youth club night. 5pm with a bonfire, fireworks and something to eat. To book your place please speak to Fr. John.
• All Souls Sunday is 31st October and we will hold a special service of Remembrance for those whom we love and no longer see. 4pm in St Botolphs we will hold a requiem mass. Names to be remembered in the mass can we given to the parish office or complete the forms in the Churches nearer the time.
