Join Team Green Britain - Let’s go for green in 2012
When everyone looks to the London Olympics in 2012, wouldn’t it be great if they saw that Britain was genuinely leading the world in the race against climate change? If we all start making changes now, it could just happen.
Can we, as individuals, make a difference? What if tens of thousands of us all worked together as one big team, inspiring each other, learning from each other, bringing out the best in each other? Isn’t there a chance we could reach a turning point and start to change things for the better?
Be part of Team Green Britain
That’s the big idea behind Team Green Britain. As a team member, you’ll get all the practical support, information and advice you need about living a greener life. So that, together, we can leave a lasting, green legacy after The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Green Britain offers you the chance to get together - with friends, neighbours or complete strangers – and do something different for a greener Britain. It’s up to you how much or how little you do. But, as a team player, you’ll know that you’re part of a movement to reduce Britain’s carbon footprint and help us all live more sustainable lives. And you could even save some money.

Team Energy
Team Energy is about cutting the energy we use in our homes by doing some simple, fun things together to become more energy-efficient and save money. How about inviting your friends and family around once a week to watch your favourite TV show? Just think of all those other TVs switched off and the energy and being saved.
Team Swap
Team Swap is about swapping your old stuff for someone else’s old stuff. Both of you end up with something you want, save money and cut out the energy it takes to produce something new. Send less to landfill and have some fun! If it’s usable, it’s swappable. That old coat you haven’t worn for two years or spare coffee table may be just what your friend has been looking for. Invite some friends round or organise a swap one lunchtime at work. You could theme it by what you want to swap or make it a free-for-all.
Team Big Lunch
Sunday 19th July 2009 saw up to one million people around the UK stop and sit down in their streets with neighbours to share a Big Lunch. People turned out to celebrate all that is good about their local communities in the biggest collection of open-air parties since the Golden Jubilee. You could get involved by hosting a lunch to meet your neighbours. The Big Lunch is not just about eating and having a good time. You might make new friends, share skills and experiences and strengthen your community.
Team A to B
Team A to B is about making as many of our journeys as green as possible. That means getting where you want to go, while producing less carbon dioxide – whether you’re walking, cycling car sharing or taking the bus. Many of the journeys we make are less than two miles, so why not start by making some of them on foot or by bike? Think of the benefits: you get a bit of exercise, you’re not stuck in traffic and you can stop for a chat. You don’t need to ditch the car for ever but sometimes two legs (or two pedals) are better than four wheels.
Running from 19-27 June, Team Green Britain Bike Week is the biggest cycling event in the UK and aims to show how cycling can easily be part of everyday life. It’s a great opportunity to try out cycling as an everyday, healthy and practical lifestyle choice that can help the planet too. To find out how you could get involved visit www.bikeweek.org.uk.
Ecoteams
EcoTeams are groups of people – neighbours, friends, work colleagues – who work together to make positive changes; from minimising the energy they use to cutting down on the stuff they throw away. EcoTeams really work and are for everyone, whatever you already do to be green. The changes they bring about not only help the environment, they save money too.
The Steyning 10:10 campaign has been set up by a group of local people to help the community to reduce their carbon emissions by 10% during 2010. Find out more about the campaign and how you can get involved by visiting.
