Jacqui Hobbs Top Tips For A Successful Dinner Party

Let’s celebrate! Whether you choose to share your special occasion with friends and family at home or at a local venue you will still be faced with a long list of things to organise before your chosen date.

What will you serve that your guests will really appreciate?

What equipment is available at your chosen venue?

If at home do you have enough crockery?

How will you decorate that hall/your home?

Here are my ‘top tips’ for ensuring success
Make your invitations clear, for example ‘a light supper’ will be served or ‘buffet lunch at 1pm’. This saves the embarrassment of running short or having too much left over as people may already have eaten.

Use seasonal ingredients. These can be their own star of the show and need little ‘dressing up’ Serve them simply to show what they are and save yourself preparation time.

People eat with their eyes so think about balance, colour, contrast and presentation when thinking about your menu.

How much do you need? Plan one plate and multiply by the number of guests.

Organise and delegate - if it’s your special day then it needs to run smoothly without you in charge. Make lists and ask for help. Play to the strengths of those around you.

Be kind to yourself, having one good person to help take the strain out of organising your party can prove their worth; helping you get the most enjoyment from your special occasion.

“We cannot thank you enough for all your help; making possible a wonderful birthday luncheon party in January and then looking after us like a mother bird allowing us to enjoy delicious meals without the hassle and work of doing it for ourselves” Marion and Donald Perrens, Steyning
