How to take part in the Greening Challenge

There’s a ‘Challenge Card’ inserted in every copy of Your Steyning this month.  The idea is to get everyone involved in the local Greening Campaign, so that together we can make a real difference in making Steyning, Bramber and Beeding greener places to live.   The aim is to encourage us all to take simple steps to save energy, save money, and cut down on CO2 emissions.

How it works:
Take out the card (which is glued to this page) and you’ll see there are nine challenges listed.  Most of these won’t cost a penny, and will start saving energy and money straight away.   Others, like, topping up your loft insulation, will require some investment – but will pay themselves back very quickly and make big savings in the longer term.

All you need to do is tick off which of these challenges you are willing to take on.   If you’re already doing them, tick them anyway and see if you can complete the entire list.

Once you have committed to five of the challenges, take the card and stick it up – logo side outward - in your front window in place where it can be seen from the road.  This will show you’re backing the Campaign, and hopefully encourage neighbours to do the same thing.

That’s it!  One month later, between 1-12 December, volunteers will be coming round to count how many cards have been put up in windows.  They won’t need to ring your doorbell.  From the number of cards they count, the Campaign will be able to calculate how much CO2 emissions are being saved – which will be publicised in a future edition of Your Steyning, and in the local press.

About the Greening Campaign:
The Greening Campaign idea started out in Petersfield, in Hampshire, and has spread from there.  Now there are over 140 communities across the South of England running a campaign – including Horsham, Henfield, Storrington and Thakeham.  It is supported by West Sussex and Horsham District Council, as well as SEEDA, and the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England. The Greening Campaign in Steyning, Bramber and Beeding is run by the volunteers from the Steyning 10:10 Climate Action Group.  For more information on the local campaign and how you can get involved, visit www.1010steyning.org or email:1010Steyning@gmail.com
