French Cocktails – Oh là là!
After the dreary days of winter, what better way to start off the Spring Term than by having a French non-alcoholic cocktail competition.
After learning the necessary vocabulary in their French lessons, Sompting Abbotts pupils from Years 4 to 8 split into teams and worked hard at both home and school to create an eye-catching, tasty cocktail with a catchy name complete with promotional poster.
Working to tight deadlines, in an Alan Sugar ‘The Apprentice’ style contest and using the internet in I.C.T. to look up prices of the various ingredients on a supermarket price comparison website, the competitors prepared for the nail-biting finish in front of the various judges.
At the end of the week, hand-painted glasses filled with cocktail accessories were awarded to Katherine Moloney and Beatrice Spence, in the Seniors, for their winning dragon fruit cocktail “Après Huit Heures” whilst prizes for the Junior winners went to Anna Chalmers, Jade Harvey and Olivia Longhurst for their colourful cocktail named “Le Lever du Soleil”.
A group of flautists played a special arrangement of “Le Cocktail” song during the prize-giving.
