Focus On Multisport Within Steyning AC
Steyning Athletic Club has evolved from its origins as a race walking club and now offers members the opportunity to train and participate in the increasingly popular sports of Triathlon, Duathlon and Aquathlon. We have coaches leading training sessions each week which cover the basic multisport disciplines of swimming, cycling and running.
We have three pool-based swim training sessions each week which run year-round. Some sessions have waiting lists and swim speed basically determines which session suits. The pool sessions run year-round. In the summer we also swim as a group in Southwater Lake on Monday evenings, wetsuits compulsory, and/or in the sea at Shoreham (times to suit tides and weather conditions). We have 5 volunteer swim coaches with years of experience between them.
Cycling training in winter is via turbo sessions in the Clubhouse on a Monday evening. We also go out on weekend rides but this is weather- dependent. In the summer we participate in Time Trials locally as we are affiliated to the Road Time Trials Council. We do not organise our own time trials. Many Club members cycle with other groups, and we have a few keen mountain bikers. Much of the club cycling is done by informal arrangement and more road cycling is done in spring/summer than autumn/winter.
Run training starts at 7pm in the Steyning AC Clubhouse two nights per week: Tuesday evenings are informal run sessions led by whoever turns up; Thursday evenings are coached and are suitable for all abilities.
Each year we organise a number of small races (free to enter) for Club members as part of an in-house multisport Summer Series. Also each year we target a few specific multisport races outside the immediate local area for Club members to enter. For details see www.steyningac.co.uk/about/triathlon-section.
For general conditioning we have a conditioning coach who leads circuit training on Wednesday evenings in the Clubhouse.
In 2011 SAC multisport athletes will also be taking part in many local, national and international races. Please see our website if you require more information about the Club www.steyningac.co.uk.
