Exciting New Writers at the Steyning Festival
The Steyning Festival as part of its action-packed programme is hosting around 22 writers this year. Amongst these authors and reflecting the Festival’s theme of “Uniting Generations” there are two authors who have started writing novels fairly recently, to wide acclaim, and who will be of great interest both to readers and fledgling authors alike.
Bethan Roberts’ compelling first novel for adults ‘The Pools’ was feted as one of the most exciting debuts of 2007.and her second, ‘A Good Plain Cook’, read on Radio 4’s A Book at Bedtime, was equally well received. As a tutor in creative writing at Goldsmiths University she is ideally suited to answer questions from hopeful writers when she visits the Steyning Bookshop Garden Marquee on Saturday June 5th at 2.30pm to talk about her books and the novel writing and publishing process.
Lucy Jago is the author of two successful works of historical non-fiction and has now produced a novel for young people set at Montecute House in the Somerset of the 1500’s. Before writing full-time, Lucy produced and directed history, arts and social documentaries for the BBC and Channel 4. She will be at the Steyning Bookshop Garden Marquee on Sunday 13th June at 2.30 pm, reading from her book and talking about the ideas and inspiration behind it.
