Blooming Great Tea Party
We had a very successful ‘Blooming Great Tea Party’ on 15 July.
We woke up to the first rain for weeks but the sun came out just on time so we were able to hold it in the garden as planned. I held a joint party with my friend Nanette Bayliss from Worthing and it was a lovely occasion, attended by around 50 friends and neighbours from both Steyning and Worthing.
A selection of sandwiches and cakes were enjoyed with cups of tea, while a pianist entertained the crowd.
I was overwhelmed with the kindness and generosity of the people who donated so willingly to make the party such a success. The Model Bakery in Steyning donated the bread while the Co-op in Steyning gave a £10 voucher for bread and sundries. Sarah Strivens of ‘Cute Country Cupcakes’ in Steyning donated a beautiful selection of cakes, along with ‘Cottage Cupcakes’ of Horsham and ‘Prosperity Brownies’ of Lancing. Kates Cakes in Wiston also had no hesitation in helping with their donation.
It meant that we had enough extra cakes for a cake sale and, along with a plant sale and donations for afternoon tea, we managed to raise a staggering £732.25 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
With the help of Nanette and my daughter, Laura Marshall, we had a superb day with an amazing turnout.
Every tea party, however big or small, will help the Marie Curie nurses to make a real difference to terminally ill people and their families in our neighbourhood. If any of your readers would like to hold their own party, then please get in touch online at www.mariecurie.org.uk/teaparty.
