All Right on the Night
With one of the punters at the Steyning & Henfield Rotary Race Night taking home £172 in prize money and Steyning Area First Responders (known as SAFeR Steyning) likely to receive in excess of £1,600 it all sounds a good night out for the 110 people who attended the event last Saturday at the Steyning Centre.
There was even a chance to celebrate World Book Night as Sara Bowers from the Steyning Bookshop gave away forty copies of the atmospheric and unusual historical thriller Dissolution by C J Sansom. Sara had been chosen as one of 20,000 donors, distributing copies of their favourite books to groups of their choice.
Martin Leigh-Pollitt, chairman of SAFeR, thanked the Rotary Club saying “What a great evening! We are very grateful for Rotary’s continuing support in running this event and that of all the local businesses which sponsored races and gave raffle prizes. We continue to rely on donations and the event was much fun, with some great results. It was good to see some of our responders enjoying themselves alongside so many of the local community, a lot of whom like Sara have benefited from our responders’ timely skilled and experienced help. It was a fun evening and I’m pleased Sara chose our event to give out her favourite book so we could also be a part of the World Book Night’.
Sara said ‘SAFeR is a cause very close to my heart and the pun is intended, since I am personally most grateful to the responders. I was delighted to be at the event and express my gratitude by giving some copies of this great book away. An enjoyable evening in aid of a most worthwhile local scheme’.
